Scarlet Hawthorn Tree
The scarlet hawthorn tree is a popular landscaping tree with colorful blossoms. Originated from European countries, they can grow up to 20 feet in height with a similar spread. They have been cultivated for more than a hundred years and it is one of the oldest ornamental hawthorn species in the world. They are famous for their bright pink flowers which blooms in spring, and some pruning is necessary for help them resist diseases and look tidy.
The tools for the pruning work should be disinfected first. Some disinfectants can be purchased from the local nurseries to clean the pruning shears. You need to wear some protecting gloves, clothes and glasses to protect your skin and eyes. You should get rid of those dead or ill branches first to make it clean and tidy. Also, some crossing branches should be removed as well to prevent them from interfering with each other. The location for the cuts should be at least a quarter of an inch above a bud. The cuts should be created by an angle instead of horizontally.
Another main reason for pruning is to control the growth rate of the tree. Generally, the ideal time for pruning is prior to the growing season. If tree are infected by some diseases, some heavy pruning is required immediately. The distance to the healthy part should be longer than usually pruning for better result.
