Pruning Thorny Hedges

Pruning Thorny Hedges

If you have some flowering hedges which are thorny shrubs like rose shrubs, you may need to spend some time pruning them especially in their growth season. Their thorns will make the pruning a difficult job for some gardening beginners. You should wear the correct equipment and use the correct tools to do this job. Generally, the ideal pruning time is in spring when the plants just ends their dormant period. You should prune your thorny plants with extra care.

Some equipments are necessary to perform some pruning jobs on thorny plants such as thick gloves and plastic goggles. You should also wear some thick clothes to protect your skins. The first thing you should do is to get rid of the dead or ill branches from the shrub. You should also remove those branches interfering with each other to increase air circulation.

When pruning a branch, you should hold the twig tightly using your hand. Some tools such as pruning shears should be used to do the pruning. The pruned branches should be disposed in a special green waste bin. You should remember to collect those cuts from the ground to avoid occasional scratches.
