Gardening can bring you a lot of fun when you enjoy your masterpiece in your backyard. However, there are a number of poisonous plants and flowers which you should be familiar so that you can avoid having them in your garden or planting them in a place out of reach of young children. You should also keep your pets out of these plants to avoid them carelessly being consumed.


Oleander is a popular flowering shrub which is planted in thousands of gardens. It has attractive red fragrant blossom in spring which can add extra colour for our spring garden. However, it is one of the most poisonous popular gardening plants. You should keep this shrub out of reach of the young children in your family since every part of this plant is toxic. Consumption of any part of this plant can cause severe intestinal issues such as vomiting and diarrhea. Over amount of taking this plant can result in coma even death.

Another severe popular toxic plant which can be seen in many yards is the English Yew. It is one of the most deadly evergreen plants in the world. Nearly all parts of this plant are toxic except for the berry fruits. Some people used to use it for inducing abortions which is also dangerous for the mom and the unborn child. The common symptoms of consumption of this plant could be some cardiac problems.

Belladonna plants have purple cherry-like fruits which appear to be delicious. However, all parts of this plant including the berries contain toxin and careless consumption can cause severe issues especially for young children. The toxin of this plant can cause headache and a series of uncomfortable feelings right after taking a small amount of the plants. The antidote is necessary for saving the life of the sufferer.
