As a member of the cashew family, the pistachio nut can be a wonderful food source for maintain healthy body. Like other healthy nuts, pistachio nuts are totally cholesterol free and packed with adequate nutrients as well. Some important nutrients include: dietary fiber, magnesium and a variety of vitamins.

Pistachio nuts contain no cholesterol and abundant monounsaturated fat which are great beneficial for the hearts and vessels. Generally, one ounce of pistachio nut contains more than 10g of fats, and only less than 10 percent of them are saturated fat. The healthy monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats contained in pistachio can effectively lower the cholesterol levels in human body and thus lower the chance of all kinds of diabetes. Also, pistachio nuts contain a great amount of omega-3 fatty acids which are helpful lower the blood pressure and protect the hearts and vessels. It is recommended to consume some nuts daily to lower the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Moreover, pistachio nuts contain a variety of other nutrients which are also essential for the well-being of the human body such as protein, dietary fibre, iron etc. The protein contained in one ounce of pistachio nuts is nearly 6g and the dietary fibre is about 3g. Also, there are about of 1.1g of iron supplied by one ounce of pistachio nuts. Iron is an important element to build up the red cells in your blood. The Phosphorus supplied by a serving of pistachio nuts is about 130mg, and phosphorus is essential to maintain healthy bones. When consuming pistachio nuts, you should avoid eat nuts with a large amount of salt which contain a large amount of sodium. Over amount of sodium will increase the risk of heart diseases.
