Hibiscus Tree Pruning
Pruning of a hibiscus tree is an effect way to make it look tidy and control its growth. As a beautiful evergreen shrub for landscaping purposes for gardens, it will grow all the time in a year. So, you need to take some time to some trimming work from time to time to make it suit for the surrounding spaces. You can consider the pruning work as the haircut for the human being.
Another object of pruning is that the removal of old or dead branches and foliage will conserve the resources and facilitate the new branches to grow. Generally, a healthy tree will have a large quantity of foliage and flowers. We should remove the old and week branches quickly to let it grow to a desired shape. When doing the real pruning work, there are some general rules you should adhere to get the best result. Due the high growth rate of Hibiscus trees, you should get a powerful tool beforehand to do the hard pruning work. For small branches, a sharp knife is adequate to handle all issues while a trimming saw or a lopper is necessary for big branches. It is not a problem to cut buds from any direction since new ones will grow from the stems very quickly. You should keep your cuts clean to reduce the risk of infection.
The second thing you should think about is the pruning dates. Normally, spring is the best time. For some cold areas, you can defer the pruning dates until all the possibility of frost hazards have gone. Also, you can do the pruning work during the blooming periods. You can remove a height of 20-30mm for every branch of the shrub to facilitate the growth of new followers in autumn. During pruning, you should apply some high-nitrogen and high-potassium fertilizers. Remember avoid over fertilizing and the times of application should no more than once per month.
