Helicopter Tree Seeds
Sometimes you may notice some tree seeds spinning down like a helicopter such as maple trees. If you can have a close look at these seeds, you may discover something which can provide you some knowledge for the tree seeds and the way it propagate.
The helicopter style of the maple seeds is a method for them to spread their seeds as far as possible to reproduce themselves. Since most maple trees can spread for a large area, the seeds should be sent out of the shade area for better growth. So, it needs a way to spread them far enough to avoid the case that the young seedlings are planted in the shade area from their parents. The helicopter rotation style of maple seeds helps them to resolve this issue.
Maple tree seed will fall from the branches once the wings are dry. Dry wings can decrease the weight and fly farther compared with the wet wings. Another advantage of the dry wing is that they are easily to break once they reach the ground. They will help the seeds easily get into the soil after the landing is complete. The astounding wings are actually designed by nature. Other inefficient designs have gradually been eliminated through the evolution. It just likes the dandelion which also has a special way to propagate their seeds to a faraway place effortlessly.
