Green Apples vs Red Apples

Green Apples vs Red Apples

If you are an apple lover and eat several apples a day, you may wonder why some apples are green while others are red. Are there any huge differences between these two species? Actually, genetically, the difference between two types is not huge. The only difference existing between them is that the skin of red apples contains anthocyanins while the skin of the green ones doesn’t.

Since most commercial produced apples are built from cross-bred, the anthocyanins gene can be easily transferred from one species to another. In this sense, the difference between two types of red apples may be bigger than the difference between one red apple and one green apple. Generally, most red apples have some background characters from the green apples. In every category, there are almost several types of apples including the green, red, yellow and so on. The taste of the each species is mostly depending on the gene and growing environment. So, each species have certain usages like for fruits, liquor, kitchen or juice purposes.

Green and red apples both have very good nutrition facts for the human health. They both have low calories and high carbohydrate content included in their flesh compared with other fruits. In this sense, both of them can be a good option for diet and weight loss. Also, there are no fat included in both types of apples, making them another merit for diet.
